Newtown Works
Located on the site of Ashford’s former Victorian railway works, Newtown Works is a £200m mixed-use regeneration project. Centred around state-of-the-art TV and film production space, the development has the potential to support 2,000 new jobs and create a new hub for the creative industries, which will benefit from Ashford’s connectivity to London and Europe.
Newtown Works will breathe new life into the Grade II listed locomotive sheds, which will be transformed into apartments and potential commercial space. The project will also include the building of a 120-bed hotel, a roof-top restaurant and a multi-storey car park.
CEO and Chairman of Quinn Estates, Mark Quinn, said: “Ashford International Studios is one of Kent’s most highly anticipated projects so it is fantastic to be taking it forward. The opportunity it presents in terms of job creation, skills growth and regeneration is phenomenal.
“We are extremely privileged to be involved in creating a lasting legacy for a site of such historical significance that has sat as one of the south-east’s largest brownfield sites for several decades. We look forward to progressing a project, which will be of huge benefit to local people.”
“My fellow directors and I realise the great responsibility as well as a great privilege of delivering this project for the residents of Ashford and the wider international community”
Cllr Peter Feacey, Ashford International Development Company
This project is supported by the UK Government with £14.7m of Levelling Up Funding that has been allocated to enable delivery of the site.
It is hoped the Ashford International Studios / Newtown Works project will regenerate a 4.8-hectare brownfield site with 5 grade II listed buildings into a dynamic Ashford International Film Studios, residential development, education centre, commercial space and hotel.
Work on the site has begun, with much of the enabling works nearly complete to make it ready for construction.
